Thread Talk

‘Thread Talk’ is hosted at Shuttles & Needles studio, on the last Saturday of every month. Thread Talk is an interactive talk show with eminent designers, artists, and people who promote arts and 'working with hands'. We aim to bring in meaningful interaction with eminent persons from different fields- textiles, animation, pottery, carpentry, fine arts and education with a curated audience.

Dr. Lucas Dengel, a specialist in bio-dynamic farming delivered a very informative talk for our June '23 episode of Thread Talk at Shuttles & Needles studio. He dwelled on the importance of introducing children of young age to hands-on composting and explained about the various steps and processes involved. He explained how children get to learn the fundamentals of environmental science and sustainable urban living by working hands-on.

Mrs. Lakshmi Krishnamurthy is a researcher, restorer, documenter, artist and mentor to those interested in pan-Indian traditional paintings. She established ‘Studio Paramparyam’, an esteemed studio dedicated to exploring and creating traditional art forms. Amongst the many hats she dons, one is her expertise in the ‘Kalamkari’ art form. In this Thread Talk, she enlightens us about “Rathapani”, the painted style of ‘Kalamkari’ as practised in SriKalahasthi town and “Adakkan”, the block printed style of ‘Kalamkari’ as practised in Machilipatnam region.
Dr. Gita Srikanth : Founder-Chairperson of We Can Resourse Centre for Autism, presents "BEYOND VERBAL"- exploring other mediums of expression for non-verbal individuals and deliberating if craft forms like weaving can also be used eventually as a non-verbal communication method.
