Weaving for fashion designers
Recently Footwear Design & Development Institute, Hyderabad (FDDI) took the first steps of setting up a nice weaving lab. Usually, students of Textile Design learn weaving, but not Fashin designers for whom the focus is on making apparel and finished products out of woven/ knitted fabrics.
However, the Institute felt that the Fashion design students get to benefit more if they get a practical understanding of how the fabric is woven and how different materials come together to make a fabric. The weaving lab now has Ashford multi-shaft Table looms and Rigid heddle looms. Our team of Textile Designer and Weaver gave a hands-on basic training program for the lecturers and staff at the college.
For fashion designers who want to learn the basics of weaving, we conduct a 2-week short-term course on the basics of pattern weaving using multi-shaft looms at Shuttles & Needles studio. It is a practical hands-on course where people get to work on preparing and dressing the loom 3 times, explore weave structures, make swatches and even a short project- all designed and executed by them with guidance.
