Kanjeevaram korvai weaving with Rigid Heddle hobby loom
Kanjeevaram silks are characterized by the temple border motif and āthazhampoo rekkuā (fragrant screw pine flower in Tamil language). Typically used in the saree borders, these are the quintessential details in the lovely Kanjeevaram sarees. The technique for creating these motifs is called ākorvaiā, translating to āinterlockingā.

These motifs can be woven on Rigid Heddle looms as well. We conduct workshops on ākorvaiā weaving for Rigid Heddle loom owners. Call us to register for the next workshop on ākorvaiā weaving, it is a sweet 3 hour workshop where you learn to make these motifs!
