Halvdrall- the Swedish weave
There is a nice rhyming to this name, isn’t it? It is a Swedish weave structure, woven on 4 shafts. The simplicity of this weave structure is surprising, looking at the possibility of creating beautiful blocks, just with 4 shafts!
Halvdrall has been on our bucket list for quite some time but it looks like it had to happen only when it had to!
The drafting is fairly straight forward and easy. Looks like a cousin of Huck lace threading. Weaving is very easy and fun, one ground pick followed by one pattern pick and you can change the width of the blocks and also play around the block colours as you go!
After setting up the warp with our favourite Onyx Brown shade in 10/2 mercerised cotton,we started dabbling with different pattern wefts and finally settled on a weft we prepared with 10/2 mercerised cotton wound onto the shuttle bobbin along with gold metallic yarn and sport weight cotton yarns. Woven on SAORI 4 shaft loom.
Just couldn’t stop weaving, even to take a coffee break!
